Architects Create

My son recently turned four years old.  It's a great age...he's more or less past the constant tantrum that age three brings and is still excited to do and learn new things.  For his birthday, one of his preschool classmates gave him (okay, we know the parents picked it out) a story book called "Iggy Peck, Architect", by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts.  Cute, right?

As architects/designers ourselves, Bart and I actually exchanged a concerned look while holding our breath.  We've always said we'd steer Hank to be a scientist or a doctor.  Suitable, respectful professions without the creative baggage.  But, what do we know?
My son loves the book, we are starting week two of two readings every night before bed.  Each time he sits at the table to do any activity that involves a crayon, pencil or piece of paper he informs me, "I have to get to work; I have to create (said crate)".  It's cute.  And it reminds me that architects create.  For better or worse, creating something everyday is pretty darn special....even if today it was just a few doodles.
